Many great things were making life much easier for most people in The United states in the 1920's. Everyone was prospering from higher wages and less work... well everyone but farmers that is. Farmers had all the right equipment to prosper, like new and advanced technology to produce more crops and higher yields. They called it the " quiet depression" in the American agriculture and it was hurting the farmers. Farmers were prospering during World War 1 because the U.S government urged them to yield high amounts of produce for the soldiers in Europe. In the early 1900's every farmer was prospering from the war. After the war is when the "quiet depression" start to arise upon the farmers.
After World War 1, farmers were not needed to produce crops for troops in Europe. Many countries in Europe were left in major debt after the war and could not offered to buy produce from the United states. To make matters worse, the U.S passed the the Fordney-Mcumber act in 1922. The act raised tariffs dramatically to try and protect American foreign competition. By passing the act, many nations were upset with the United States and stopped buying goods from United states. Farmers could no longer sale the crops to other nations over seas and the prices tumbled.
